Jewellery Care Guide

Worn every day.
Kept for a
lifetime.

Fine jewellery does not need to be delicate to last. It needs to be cared for. A short, considered routine — and a professional inspection twice a year — is enough to keep a Papillon piece looking new for generations.

What follows is the same guidance we give every client in the boutique.

01
Chapter 01

Cleaning

For everyday cleaning, warm water, a drop of unperfumed soap, and a very soft brush. Rinse in clean water, pat dry on a lint-free cloth.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on emeralds, opals, pearls, tanzanite and any treated stones.

02
Chapter 02

Storage

Store each piece separately in the pouch or case in which it arrived. Diamonds scratch other stones; gold work-hardens against gold.

Keep pieces away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and humid rooms such as bathrooms.

03
Chapter 03

Everyday Wear

Jewellery is the last thing on, the first thing off. Apply perfume, sunscreen and cosmetics before wearing.

Remove pieces for the gym, swimming, gardening and manual work. Chlorine and abrasive detergents can dull the finish and stress prongs.

Chapter 04

Professional Inspection

We recommend a complimentary inspection every six months. We check prong tension, clasp integrity, hallmark and finish.

Bring the piece into the boutique, or send it to us insured — we return it looking new.

Long-term Care

A well-made piece is meant to outlive its owner. Papillon offers a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee on setting, hallmark and structural integrity.

For treasured pieces, we recommend a written re-valuation every three to five years.
